By Dr. Kodey S. Hughes, Superintendent, Juab School District

There are few places in education more exciting than standing at the doors of a school on the first day of a new year.

This past Wednesday, August 19, students returned to Juab School District. From our elementary schools to the junior high and high school, our buildings once again came alive with students, teachers, and staff excited about the opportunities ahead.

As I walked through our schools that morning, I was reminded that some of the most important moments in education can also be the simplest. It is the bus driver greeting a student as they climb aboard. It is the food service worker welcoming students into the cafeteria. It is the teacher standing at the classroom door, the principal giving a high five in the hallway, or a staff member sharing a smile with a student who might be a little nervous about the first day.

These moments matter.

As superintendent, there is something powerful about walking through our schools and watching those interactions. They remind me of why we are here. Behind every classroom door and every school activity is an opportunity to teach, encourage, support, and make a difference in the life of a young person.

But our school cannot do this work alone.

Some of the greatest strengths of a rural community are the relationships and partnerships that surround our children. Parents, grandparents, families, educators, and community members all play an important role in helping our students grow. When home, school, and community work together, our children are surrounded by people who believe in them and want them to succeed.

Thank you to our teachers and staff who prepared our schools for another year. Thank you to our families for trusting and supporting us. And thank you to our community for continuing to stand behind our students and schools.

The doors are open, the hallways are full again, and another year of opportunities has begun. Here's to a wonderful year in Juab School District!
